Berlin-based Dutch composer and electronic musician Thomas Ankersmit is fascinated by the overwhelming physical, sometimes even violent experience that electronic music can generate. He plays analogue modular synthesizers but tries to go beyond the clichés of those instruments to explore their as-yet unexplored compositional possibilities. And to move forward, you sometimes have to look back. That is why, for his new project, Ankersmit is drawing inspiration from the pioneering work of various tape composers from the 1960s and 1970s.
